Personal Branding

Whether we like it or not, people label us. Each and every one of us has a brand affiliated with ourselves based on the things we do and say. Such labels can be “sophisticated with impeccable taste”, “free spirit who values nutrition”, or “super mom who can do it all”. The variations of these “brands” are limitless and each person can have a unique brand.

Let’s say you really like your personal brand and want to create a business around it. Well, you’ve come to the right place because today we are sharing our insights on how to make this happen. Whether you want to be a blogger, real estate agent, wealth manager, musician, etc.. personal branding is key. So with that being said, here are some tips for creating a successful personal brand:

Establish Your Personal Brand

It is vital for your brand to have a consistent image, so to ensure that it does, take time to plan out your personal brand. Describe yourself, your specialty, your emotional appeal. If you were sitting in the middle of the room, what would you want people to say about you? Take those characteristics and personality traits and do things that affiliate you with them. This is called defining your brand vision, how you want to be understood by your audience. Taking time to define your brand will ensure that your message and image remain consistent in all things you do.

Be Authentic

People can smell a phony from a mile away. You don’t have to do what everyone else is doing, just stay true to who you are. If you force something upon yourself that isn’t you, people will sense it. Eventually it will show in your behavior and once that happens your followers may react negatively by unfollowing you, leaving a mean comment/review, not hiring your services, etc.. Keep in mind that you don’t control your brand, your audience does. After all, your brand is the result of everything you do that affects your customer. So just be your true self and remain honest with your audience.

Share Knowledge

Your brand should reflect who you are and what you have to offer. In order to build a following, you need to add value to people’s lives, and you can do so by sharing content that aligns with your brand vision. Whether it be writing blog posts, sharing tips on social media, creating videos… the key to personal branding is publishing content that adds value, which will build your following and raise your brand awareness. You want to communicate that you are the expert in your field and that people should come to you when they are in the market for that service.

Develop a Platform

Where are you going to share your knowledge? Get a website, write a newsletter, start accounts on the social media platforms that make sense for your industry, and start creating a community on these platforms. Reference your brand vision to make sure the look of your platforms match and always remain consistent with the use of your brand assets (fonts, colors, logos, images, etc)

We hope this post serves as a starting point for building your personal brand. If at any point you need help with defining your brand vision, creating content, getting your website up and running, please do not hesitate to schedule a free consultation with us. We look forward to hearing from you.
