Bring out your sweaters, decorative pumpkins, and Halloween movies because last Friday was officially the First Day of Autumn! While the Fall season may bring us colorful leaves and pumpkin spice flavored everything, it also brings the opportunity to create great content for your business’ social media.
At Cobalt & Sapphire, we are constantly generating creative content ideas to keep our clients’ audience engaged. As we transition to a new season, it is easier to shake things up and change the tone in our messaging to match the vibe of the new Fall environment. From captivating pictures on Instagram to videos tailored for Facebook, we have curated 7 content ideas that your business can implement into your social media this season.
*Keep in mind that you should tailor each idea to your brand.
1. Your Spooky Workspace
It doesn’t matter if your business operates out of a home office or a brick and mortar storefront, Halloween decorations have no bias. Show off your business’ creativity in a fun post highlighting your Halloween spirit in the workplace. Put spiderwebs on your desk, a row of funny pumpkins along the window, let your creativity run wild. This type of behind the scenes footage is exactly what builds your brand’s personality.
2. Share your Pumpkin on National Pumpkin Day
Carve a pumpkin and post about it on October 26th because it is National Pumpkin Day!! Make sure it’s post-worthy and on brand. And it doesn’t always need to be a carved pumpkin. For example, if you own a boutique, you can paint designs on your pumpkins and use it as a mannequin to showcase accessories you sell. Have a hashtag? Why not carve it into a pumpkin and put it outside your door?
3. Halloween Costumes Tailored to Your Business
The perfect post for Halloween! No matter what industry you work in, there is a costume tailored to your field of business that is sure to bring laughs. For example, we manage the social media of an eyewear store and I’m going to dress the store cat as harry potter by putting a round pair of glasses on him with a red and yellow scarf. If you own a bookstore, dress as a character from a classic children’s novel. A business that deals with finances? Easy, dress up as an Excel Spreadsheet. The key here is to post something that hasn’t been overdone that will bring a smile to your audience’s face.
4. Spead Gratitude
You don’t have to wait until Thanksgiving to be grateful. The week following Halloween post a video to Facebook where employees and select clients share one quick thing they are thankful for. End it with the business owner or manager saying they are thankful for the support of their community or thankful to be able to serve your wonderful clients. Edit the video to under a minute, add a cool title, a nice background song, and end it with a slide reading “What Are You Thankful For?” and a “Share with us” hashtag to encourage dialogue. Top it all off with a sweet caption such as “Grateful for you”. You can edit a snippet to post on Instagram and have a call to action to see the full video on Facebook. Here is one to inspire you:
5. Autumn themed giveaway
This one’s simple. Offer something your business can give away in a social media contest. Tell your audience that a winner will be chosen if they like/follow your page, tag a friend below, and repost the picture with the clever hashtag you will create. This gets you more followers and the opportunity to promote one of your products/ services and it will leave your followers happy, because who doesn’t love free stuff?
6. Timelapse the Essence of Fall
Leaves are changing colors, trees shed onto sidewalks, and business still goes on. Record a time-lapse video capturing the essence of Fall to give your audience a cozy vibe. Does your office view include a tree? Put the camera on one side of the room and capture a timelapse of you working on a project as leaves fall in the background. Putting up a new window display for your shop? Capture a timelapse of you putting together the new display. Timelapses are fun and as our scenery is changing, it is the perfect time to incorporate them into your content. Here is an example of the type of shot you could capture (although we don’t recommend this audio):
7. Support a Charity
Tis’ always the time to give back, not just on Thanksgiving or Christmas. Round up your employees and pick a charity to support. Whether it’s putting a bin in your store to collect clothes for the needy, or heading out to your local food bank to volunteer, giving back goes a long way. (Plus, people like supporting businesses that stand for something). Have a charity your organization already supports? Why not post about it to encourage donations from your followers. The key here is to communicate to your followers that your business gives back to the community and encourage them to do the same.
